Hatha Yoga

Grounding – Energising – Relaxing

Contact Us

Yoga is one of the world’s most integrated systems of personal development. The term “Yoga” is a Sanskrit word meaning “to unite”. Yoga is a means of restoring a healthier balance to body and mind so that you are better able to cope with the stresses and strains of modern life. We are specifically seeking to unify the body, breath and mind by linking movement, breath and relaxation.

By focusing on the strength and flexibility of the spine, all the muscles in the body are stretched and toned; circulation, digestion and the nervous and respiratory systems are improved. A strong healthy body is produced by combining deep breathing, relaxation and concentration with the postures. Energy levels increase and the body regains its natural flexibility. Stress and tension are released, relaxing and balancing the mind, body and spirit. By practising yoga, one can maintain youthfulness and enjoy a wonderful improvement in your physical and mental well-being.

Hatha Yoga Class

The Hatha Yoga class is a moderately energetic flow of postures creating a state of harmony between body and mind. The class uses physical movement to create mental stillness and is essentially a ‘moving meditation’, the aim being to energise the body and calm the mind.

The class begins with some gentle opening and conditioning exercises followed by a flow of Sun Salutations to generate heat before moving on to various sequences of the traditional yoga postures (Asanas). There is a strong focus on the use of the breath and breathing techniques (Pranayama) to both encourage flowing from one posture to another and to centre the mind. Variations for some postures will also be given for more experienced students.

Gentle/Beginners Yoga

The Gentle/Beginners Yoga is a slower paced class, giving you a solid foundation in simple breathing techniques and the basic postures, breaking down each pose and giving modifications where necessary.

The emphasis, in all classes, is on a non competitive individual yoga practice where students are encouraged to explore their own boundaries and progress at their own unique pace.

Home practice, in addition to attending the class, is highly recommended and where possible, students at general level should try to attend two classes per week for greater benefit.
